BSU Network Design

The Ball State University network employs a wide variety of networking technologies. Core routers are interconnected with Ten Gigabit and Gigabit Ethernet. They are capable of routing up to 720 Gigabits per second.  Campus buildings are interconnected with Ten Gigabit or Gigabit Ethernet. They are cable of routing between 120 and 256 Gigabits per second. Features of the wired network include, differentiated service offered to applications needing real-time performance such as VoIP and High-Definition video, Multicast for the efficient delivery of streaming video, and policy-routing for the efficient movement of traffic across the network.

Ball State 's campus is also blanketed with 802.11g access points capable of providing 54Mbps of mobile connectivity. Select buildings feature dual-band 802.11n access points capable of providing 300Mbps connectivity. Features of the wireless network include RADIUS authentication, roaming, and an optional 128-bit encryption.
